Where History Lives- The Frank Irving Consaul House By Larry Michaels The East Side is well known for its stone houses, especially in the Spring Grove historic district, but those houses are actually made of pre-cast concrete. An authentic stone house is the Frank Consaul home at 748 Euclid Avenue at Greenwood. Built of fieldstone in 1904, it was for many years the home of Toledo Councilman Frank Consaul, whose original family farm gave its name to Consaul Street in Birmingham. Later owners of the house include William McAllister and Paul Perry. The four-square design was popular at the turn of the 20th century and features the flat rooflines and dormers of the Frank Lloyd Wright style. The house also has an enclosed stone porch and bow window at the side. Behind the house on Greenwood is an earlier Consaul home of late-Victorian Queen Anne architecture.
