She Saw Red:
SheSawRed is an award-winning one-woman costuming adventure
operated by Andi Young-Newton from NW Ohio. Corsetry, costuming and custom
formal and clubwear are commonly found dancing out of SheSawRed's studio.
Custom orders - How it works:
We have a consultation.
We meet in person [or online] to discuss what you want. Measurments are
taken, drawings are made, we talk about materials. A deadline is set,
if there is one.
We go shopping. Yes, you buy the materials. All of them. You
can pay me half of the projected cost up-front to cover materials, we
go shopping an actual store, or stuff is ordered online and sent to my
studio.
I often run out of
something, so I tend to ask for a percentage up-front anyway- to cover
incidental costs. Anything you pay that is not used for materials will
be subtracted from the final cost.
If I have materials
in stock, they will be part of my initial price quote. I try to keep
some things like in stock because they are cheaper in bulk quantities
- and I use them often. If I run out of these things, or you want special
sizes, colors or finishes, you will buy them in the quantity that you
need before I start your order. If there is extra, they are absorbed into
my stock and the cost is taken out of your total.
If you want a Busk
in your corset, it will have to be ordered - I do not keep them in stock.
I think they're a ripoff, but some folks appreciate the authenticity.
Pricing:
I'm reasonable. Contact me for my rates!
Corset
pricing:
A basic overbust with steel boning is $200. An underbust is $150.
Little things like inserting a busk, modesty panel, beading, trim, ruffles,
bling, buckles, piping and inserting extra [decorative] lacing will naturally
add to the cost.
Q&A
. ________________________________
What can you make?
The short answer is: Whatever you want.
Bring it to me on a bar napkin or in your sketchbook. Show me examples
of what inspires you. Is it from a movie or a comic book? Bring me what
you already have, and we can make it into something better.
Can
you teach me how to sew?
No. I am self-taught, so I'm sure my methods are completely unorthodox
and shouldn't be passed on. :P
